Ocular Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin condition that can cause your facial skin to become red and/or irritated and inflamed. Sometime, this condition can affect the eyes – this is called ocular rosacea.

Symptoms of Ocular Rosacea

  • Red or Watery eyes
  • Burning sensation in the eyes
  • Redness and swelling around the eyes (eyelid and at base of eyelashes)
  • Eyelid oil gland dysfunction or clogging

Diagnosis & Treatment of Ocular Rosacea

Your ophthalmologist can diagnose ocular rosacea during a thorough eye exam. There is no current cure for rosacea, however your eye doctor can help you manage the condition through treatment for symptoms. Depending on your specific symptoms, your doctor may prescribe steroid eye drops, antibiotic medication or ointment, or eyelid scrubs for optimal hygiene.
