Refractive Lens Exchange

Refractive lens exchange, sometimes also referred to as lens replacement surgery, is a procedure that replaces the eye’s clear, natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). The lens exchange is an effective method for correcting refractive errors.

Surgical Correction of Presbyopia and Myopia

Presbyopia is a kind of refractive error that causes people to have difficulty focusing on objects up-close. Age is a large risk factor and the condition is common among Americans over the age of 40. Many people who develop presbyopia with age use reading glasses designed to magnify while engaging in certain activities like reading.

Myopia is a kind of refractive error that is also commonly known as nearsightedness. This is a common condition in Americans under the age of 40. When nearsighted, people can have difficult seeing distant objects clearly, such as road signs while driving. While distance vision can be a challenge for those with myopia, up-close vision for tasks such as reading or computer use can be unaffected.

Both presbyopia and myopia are refractive errors that can be corrected surgically through lens exchange.
